The conceptual design for Advance® started out from a project management premise. So out went the "Activity" or "Work Type" codes, and in came "Milestones". The fundamental difference is that a milestone can have a target and actual completion date (optionally as an offset from the project start or end date) as well as budgeted hours and costs. It can also be assigned a responsibility. These are the minimum, essential components of any Project Management system, and are a fundamental part of the design of Advance®. This approach means that Advance® is also "Matter or Job Centric" as well as "Client Centric".

Advance® offers seamless integration to the Microsoft Office suite of products. Data contained within the practice database can be used with Access, Excel, and Word. Our clients have seen integration with Microsoft Office deliver higher levels of productivity such as fast data analysis and more efficient communication with clients.

Advance® also integrates to leading taxation systems CCH Taxpoint and CCH Corporate. Integration to other systems is also possible depending on the database the tax system uses.

Advance® is backwardly compatible with previous versions of Windows NT Server 4 and Novell 4 and 5. At the client operating system level Advance® is compatible with Windows 98, NT Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional.
