PeopleSoft founder eyes an Oracle market

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- PeopleSoft founder Dave Duffield is starting a new company, possibly focused on enterprise resource planning software, a field that has been dominated by Oracle, PeopleSoft and German rival SAP, the San Francisco Chronicle reported online Saturday.

Duffield stepped down as CEO of PeopleSoft shortly before the company was taken over by Oracle Corp. (ORCL: news, chart, profile) after a protracted and heated battle.

Duffield has brought associates on board with him, the Chronicle reported. Aneel Bhusri, co-founder of the new company, was a PeopleSoft director. He's also a general partner with Greylock Partners.

Stan Swete, vice president of products and technology, was PeopleSoft's head of products and technology. John Malatesta, chief architect, was PeopleSoft's principal systems architect
