Geac's Customer Activated Card Payment System Delivers Benefits for White Castle Restaurants

White Castle reports "credit card sales have increased by 56%" in first deployed region

MARKHAM, ON and NASHUA, NH, Dec. 23 /CNW/ - Geac Restaurant Systems, a division of Geac(R) (TSX:GAC, NASDAQ:GEAC), announced that White Castle Management Company, owners of the White Castle Restaurants for over 80 years, has begun what is expected to be a chain-wide installation of Geac's integrated credit card system. To date, White Castle has issued purchase orders for the Geac systems to be installed at over 300 of its restaurants.

Geac's credit card solution, powered by Southern DataComm Inc.'s ProtoBase(R) with SofTrans(R) and ProtoBase eXpress(sm) Service, is fully integrated to the quick service point of sale system allowing transactions to process over high speed connections resulting in a payment process that is faster than cash.

"Since completing the rollout of Geac's integrated credit card system in our first region, the region's credit card sales have increased by 56%," said Don Long, Senior Director of Information Services and Technology at White Castle Restaurants. "This system is faster than cash, and it provides the secure and positive customer experience that we are looking for. Training was minimal and no additional team members were hired to run this system. We handled the software installations from our corporate offices. We are able to install 30 Castles a week. Our Team Members and customers picked up on the system very quickly."

Geac's integrated credit card system eliminates the need for customers to hand over their card to the cashier. Customers can swipe as they order keeping their cards securely in hand. In the drive-thru, a card reader enclosure by Delphi Display Systems makes access convenient and the equipment secure from environmental failures. Delphi's Cashless-Payment outside housing structure is an integrated part of White Castle's investment in drive-thru technology, which also includes Delphi's advanced graphical digital displays for order confirmation and product merchandising. The comprehensive Delphi system at White Castle serves to increase speed-of-service and improve overall customer satisfaction.

At a time specified by the restaurant, the Geac credit card software automatically performs settlements. Management involvement is not required. Real time reports are available to confirm POS payment activity and settlement.

With near real-time settlement monitoring, White Castle is immediately made aware of any bank deposit or credit settlement problems. Polling reports, database information and exception reports are available to the White Castle corporate office to monitor settlement vs. POS credit payment activity.

"Consumers are continuing to demand choice and convenience at the point-of-sale. Consumer surveys suggest that customers frequent a QSR that accepts credit/debit card payments more often than a traditional cash-only QSR and customers spend more money if debit and credit payments are available," said David Poole, General Manager of Geac Restaurant Systems. "While White Castle recognized these trends and the benefits associated with electronic payments, they wanted to make sure that their implementation would also provide the speed and customer satisfaction that their customers demand. In partnership with Geac, White Castle has delivered payment choice with the speed and security their customers expect."

White Castle will also be using the Geac solution to initiate an electronic gift card program in some markets this Holiday season.

"Geac delivered all of the key features that White Castle requested. I am very pleased with the integration and the way that this program fit with our operations and our technical infrastructure," said Long.
