Geac SmartStream 7.0 ERP Suite Goes Live at EPSRC
New release offers enhanced decision making and integrated performance management capabilities
STUDLEY, UK, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - Geac(R) (TSX:GAC, NASDAQ:GEAC) today announced that Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the UK has gone live with SmartStream 7.0, the latest release of Geac's popular, client/server-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution. The new release of SmartStream features significant enhancements that enable customers to effectively manage financial and operational information for more informed business decision-making. Specifically, SmartStream 7.0 delivers improved financial, procurement, human resources, project management, real-time funds checking, and analysis processes. In addition, Geac's new Fast-Track package provides fast and accurate integration between SmartStream 7.0 and Geac MPC performance management software.
Chris Moulsley, Head of Proprietary Systems & SharePoint within the IS department of the EPSRC said: "EPSRC upgraded to SmartStream 7.0 on 2 September 2005. The upgrade was one of the smoothest that we have encountered. EPSRC's policy was to move all its server platform software to Windows 2003. SmartStream 7.0 enabled this transition, not only to the latest Windows server platform but also the introduction of Powerbuilder 9.0 which will allow greater flexibility in coding and future enhancements. It was not only the technological improvements that have benefited EPSRC. The user interface had been enhanced to allow users greater flexibility. The introduction of colour schemes, being able to expand the amount of data seen on the activities and the ability to change the fields within the File/Open screens was particularly liked by our users.
"EPSRC also upgraded Geac's Active Access(TM) suite of products to the NET platform which integrates with the new version of SmartStream and Windows 2003 server. Overall a smooth upgrade that moves us onto a platform for the future. EPSRC looks forward to future functionality enhancements."
Geac SmartStream extends business processes for suppliers, partners, and customers, whilst broadening decision-making authority. SmartStream applications comprise a complete set of solutions for managing an organisation's back office, including general ledger, budget administration, receivables and payables, billing, asset management, procurement, and human resources.
"At Geac, we are committed to delivering solutions that maximise the value and extend the capabilities of customers' applications," said Tim Wright, Chief Executive, EMEA & Asia-Pacific and Chief Technology Officer for Geac, "We have continued to invest in our back office products, such as SmartStream, to increase user productivity and business effectiveness for our customers. With additional features in SmartStream 7.0 and integration with Geac Performance Management, companies will enjoy greater ease of use, more automated document preparation and report retrieval, and a more unified view of information for increased management flexibility."
Geac developed technical upgrades and application enhancements based on customer feedback, including requested features such as two-way matching for accounts payable, automatic close of year end for general ledger, user- friendly interfaces, license management enhancements and other ledger entry functions.
