FOUNDATION Software Teams with Michigan State University to Enhance Job Cost Accounting Curriculum. Hands-on coursework exposes construction management students to critical-needs area.
January 18, 2005 Cleveland - For Immediate Release: Foundation Software, a national developer of construction accounting systems, recently announced their plan to donate construction-specific accounting software, as well as a sample database and correlating documentation, as part of an enhanced financial management curriculum within Michigan State University’s Construction Management (CM) program. Foundation Software would work jointly with the construction faculty at Michigan State to establish this new curriculum.
Michigan State University, located in East Lansing, Michigan, offers undergraduate, masters and PhD programs in Construction Management. Combining both technical and managerial aspects of construction into its curriculum, Michigan State University offers one of the most reputable CM programs in the country. In addition, Michigan State University enjoys strong affiliations with major contracting, design-build, and construction management industry leaders nationwide.
The CM program at Michigan State University, established in 1948, has expanded to accommodate a changing industry. With a commitment to exposing students to the latest advancements in technology applications, the university is teaming with Foundation Software to further enhance student learning in the area of job-cost accounting.
Foundation Software will provide direct assistance with the following:
· The donation of construction-specific accounting software and documentation, and two computers.
· The creation of a sample database within the software for hands-on lab work that corresponds with classroom instruction.
· The development of practical coursework with a focus on how job cost accounting is performed on a day-to-day basis.
Fred Ode, CEO/Chairman and Founder of Foundation Software Inc. explained why a software developer is interested in college coursework. “Our goal is to provide tomorrow’s construction managers with the tools they will need to make smart business decisions. This curriculum promotes a greater understanding of job cost accounting, and how it impacts all areas of the construction business,” Ode said. “We are excited to be part of the education process.”
Andrew Seidel, Academic Advisor and Instructor at Michigan State University, said that the enhanced job-cost accounting coursework will be available to students beginning with an August summer session. “With the help of Foundation Software, graduating CM students will be better prepared to manage jobs in both the field and in the office. Today’s competitive job market demands that students understand and make use of all that technology has to offer,” Seidel said. ###
