Geac Restaurant Systems Partners With Wincor Nixdorf to Offer Wincor Touch Screen Terminals With Geac SmartPoint POS and UltraTouch Software

f Geac(R) (TSX: GAC - News) and a leading provider of Restaurant Enterprise Solutions, and Wincor Nixdorf, Inc., the global leader in open system solutions for the retail and banking industries, today announced a partnership that allows Geac to resell Wincor's BEETLE(R) family of Point of Sale (POS) touch screen terminals together with Geac's SmartPoint POS and UltraTouch applications. Through this combination of technologies, Geac's hospitality industry customers will receive new levels of performance to further enhance customer service in their "front of house" operations.

"By combining Geac's robust Restaurant Enterprise Solutions with Wincor's open platform systems, the hospitality industry now has a comprehensive, technologically innovative solution for their store systems," said Jeff Soisson, president of Wincor Nixdorf USA. "We look forward to working with such a recognized industry leader."

"Wincor Nixdorf's experience in retail and banking combined with Geac's in restaurants, stadiums, and hotels will provide new perspective and 'best practice solutions' for the hospitality industry," said David Poole, general manager of Geac Restaurant Systems. "This partnership demonstrates that Geac continues to execute our 'build, buy, partner' technology strategy in all segments of our business, to benefit our customers."

The Geac/Wincor solution recently was selected by Burger King franchisee Caroline Cuisine, which operates Burger King locations in Massachusetts. "We look forward to reaping the benefits of this new state of the art solution," Jack DiTillio, owner of Caroline Cuisine, said. "The proven reliability of the system, and Geac's local and personal customer service, are an appealing combination."

Geac's SmartSeries family of hospitality industry solutions offers fully scalable store-based, back office and enterprise management and reporting systems. SmartPoint POS is a comprehensive restaurant order processing application that incorporates time and attendance, order processing and advanced cash control. Developed in a true 32-bit environment, SmartPoint is based on Windows(R) technologies and optimized for Windows 2000/XP(R). It adheres to OLE for Retail POS (OPOS) standards for POS peripheral connectivity.

Geac's UltraTouch application is designed specifically for the quick- service restaurant industry. UltraTouch is a thin-client software solution and is centered around a graphical user interface utilizing touch screen technology. Its open architecture system incorporates independent, interactive modules for all order processing and kitchen production, employee timekeeping, inventory functions, as well as complete management control and reporting procedures.

Wincor Nixdorf's BEETLE family is the most prolific open POS platform in the world. Highly versatile, the BEETLE addresses the complete spectrum of retail touch points, including thin-client POS terminals, lean- and thick- client POS systems, self-service kiosks, inquiry and service desk workstations, and mobile POS devices. BEETLEs are built upon a single, open technology platform - the BEETLE One architecture - that includes a common motherboard and Embedded Intel chipset technology, as well as a choice of Intel processors; industry-standard interfaces for retail peripherals; a wide range of storage, expansion and display options; and the most extensive operating system and peripheral device support in the industry. This provides mix-and-match flexibility between BEETLE models, simplifies service requirements, and guarantees a consistent, stable platform for next-generation POS solutions.
