City of Savannah Selects Lawson ERP Applications to Help Cut Costs and Increase Financial Transparency

Georgia city will use enterprise-wide HR and financial applications to help automate processes and improve productivity.

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN - News) today announced the City of Savannah, Georgia, has selected Lawson for a multi-application deployment of the Lawson Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management suites, along with Lawson Business Intelligence. These applications will help the city automate and streamline HR and procurement processes and reduce costs by supporting more efficient financial and business processes. The contract was signed during Lawson’s fourth quarter of fiscal year 2010, which ended May 31, 2010. Lawson Professional Services will provide implementation services for the project rollout.

Savannah, with a population of more than 130,000 residents, is the largest city in - and the county seat of, Chatham County, Georgia. The city sought to replace its existing IT system and platform that has been in use for more than 15 years with a more functional enterprise-wide system. The objective of this project is to better align IT resources with the city’s growing size and business operations.

“We chose Lawson because of the depth and proven functionality of its software applications, as well as Lawson’s knowledge and expertise in the public sector,” said Joy Wilkinson, ERP project manager, City of Savannah. “In addition, Lawson can provide both the software and implementation services under one roof, which was very important to us.”

Specifically, the new enterprise system will bring together core Lawson business and financial applications, as well as productivity tools, including:

•Enterprise Financial Management, which will help the city’s finance and budget departments more efficiently allocate and track available funds, gauge financial performance and help increase budgeting and reporting transparency across multiple departments.
•Human Capital Management, which will help reduce the time, effort and expense city authorities need to spend on day-to-day administrative tasks.
•Supply Chain Management, which will help improve supply chain visibility and operational cost control for procurement, resource allocation, capacity planning and other operations.
•Strategic Sourcing, which will help city authorities more efficiently manage the sourcing of goods and services and Contract Management, which will help streamline the creation, management, monitoring and accessibility of all contract-related documents.
•Lawson Business Intelligence, which will help improve overall effectiveness and accountability by helping provide timely, accurate information to city personnel from a centralized system.

“The city of Savannah’s upgrade to a 21st century IT system will help provide increased financial transparency to its citizens, which in turn helps support greater accountability and more accurate reporting,” said Brian Murphy, general manager, Public Sector for Lawson. “By cutting across all functional business areas, the city’s new enterprise-wide system will help generate operational efficiencies and ultimately help reduce costs.”
