July 18, 2008 – Taos, New Mexico - Universal Business Computing Company (UBCC), announces one of its clients, Ria Botzler, Owner of New Mexico-based Checks & Doublechecks, an accounting firm for small businesses, and Strategic Networking, has been named the "2008 Innovation Award Winner" by The Practical Accountant. Ria Botzler exemplifies innovation within the industry and is being recognized for founding a second business (which is now a franchise) to support the marketing needs for Checks and Doublechecks, called Strategic Networking. "After observing that many accounting firms spend thousands of dollars on marketing with sometimes paltry results, I realized there was opportunity to initiate a new business, Strategic Networking, to allow firms to make money while marketing," said Botzler. Strategic Networking hosts events attended by 24 business owners who are randomly paired to deliver two-minute service pitches to each other. When a whistle blows, attendees rotate pairs. By the end of the evening each attendee has come face-to-face with every other attendee present. All attendees come from different industries to prevent service overlap. "Strategic Networking is designed to guarantee repeat participants the opportunity to network with new contacts, which is a pitfall of traditional networking formats, commented Botzler. Botzler charges a nominal fee for the networking events and uses Strategic Networking to funnel new clients into Checks and Doublechecks while making a profit. Since implementing this marketing strategy, Botzler's Strategic Networking client database has grown to over 4,000 names. She maintains contact via email at least twice a month – at no cost – with these clients, and is the "go to" person for networking in her area. Botzler has transitioned Strategic Networking into a successful franchise, with locations in Chicago, Denver, Colorado Springs and Las Cruces, NM. Most recently, this concept allowed the owner in Chicago, a CPA, to host his first Strategic Networking event and immediately land a new client with an estimated annual boost to his business revenue of more than $20,000.
