Don't do it, it's the worst and the Provide X will crash all the time. I have a client that tried it and had nothing but problems.
If you want external users to use the desktop app than you need to use Terminal server or Citrix. At least if they lose their connection they will be ok.
The other thing is performance, MAS90 is slow enough on a regular network, if you tried to have remote users use it over a VPN they would probably try and hang you.
The upgrade won't help even with the MAS200 SQL version. The SQL version isn't real because it still uses Provide X to access the database. It's the worst design. If you were going to invest money in upgrading you should go to Best enterprise or someting else that is SQL based like Great Plains. Even Pervasive SQL would be better.
