Hi everyone. I am an IT consultant and software developer who has recently taken on a new customer who is running ACCPAC Plus for DOS. He is interested in putting his inventory online and having customers place orders on his website. He is also interested in a hand-held solution so his sales reps can take orders while away form the office. These orders would then be downloaded (via WiFi) into the system and new inventory & customer lists uploaded to the hand-held.
I have done this sort of thing many times before and have even done full system migrations from mainframe/dumb-terminal computer systems using ISAM databases. However I am unfamiliar with ACCPAC for DOS. What format is the database? Is it something like Dbase? Or is it it’s own proprietary format? Is there anyway to make an ODBC or OLEDB connection to it from a web-application? I have stumbled across Adagio by Softtrack which claims to be a drop-in replacement for ACCPAC for DOS. Does anyone have experience with this? Are their claims of how easy the migration is true?
Softtrack also makes a product called “Adagio OLEDB” which makes a read-only connection to ACCAPC for DOS data. Is this the only solution? What if I want read/write access?
