I am getting the same problem after upgrading from QB2003 to QB2004 (standard). One cause (but not the only one) seems to be the use of the hash symbol (#) in a Customer Name. Trying to change the name did not help - QB again thought that there was a currency discrepency to be resovled and prevented me - I had to re-input the transactions using a new Customer Name.
