What a tough situation to be in! Rest assured, in a stable network, Solomon 4.21 should be fantastic!
With the current install you are having trouble with, is this in 4.2x or are you on an NT workstation connecting to the Netware 3.12 running Solomon 2.06?
The problem you described is usually resolved by running DBUpdate and processing the CSVs. This is a critical step to complete before working with a Solomon database.
Do you have a copy of the Installation guide? It is an excellent resource that describes all the steps required to get up and running with Solomon 4.2x. If not, it should be in PDF form on the CD.
