Automation has its roots in the manufacturing industry. In fact, the term was first coined by a manufacturing engineer at Ford Motor Company. But as automation has continuously revolutionized the manufacturing of all kinds of products, management of customer orders for those products has lagged far behind in sophistication and efficiency. Today, even some of the world’s largest corporations with the most advanced manufacturing processes still rely on the most antiquated manual processes for getting orders into their ERP systems.
