Ideas In Motion:

Wadih Pazos: Paper “Saved” is Efficient and Cost Productive

By Scott H. Cytron, ABC

Wadih Pazos brings new meaning to the word “overachiever.” At the ripe old age of 31, he has accomplished more than many are capable of achieving in a lifetime. It doesn’t seem too surprising to learn, then, that he found his calling to the field of technology long before most of us were allowed to stay home without a supervising adult.

“I have been writing computer software in one capacity or another since I was 10 years old,” he says. “I always knew that my work would be related to computers.”

Boy was he right.

Wadih Pazos

Today, Pazos is a director in the Technology Services Department of Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra (MBAF) and vice president of Solutions@MBAF, LLC, where he is in charge of the Business Process Management & Automation Group. MBAF is a full service accounting and consulting firm with offices in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Solutions@MBAF provides technology solutions to a wide variety of companies and organizations, maintaining affiliations with Microsoft, Sage and Blackbaud. The technology arm also is a QuickBooks Enterprise Service Provider.

MBAF has been Pazos’ one and only post-graduate employer. He previously worked as a network administrator for a Miami-Dade public school while finishing up his bachelor’s degree in computer science. During his short time working for the school district, he implemented the first all-wireless school in Miami-Dade County.

“The job at the school was a great experience because I was able to work with, and mentor, children who were in the computer class,” he says. “Those kids were my first ‘development’ team. I learned a lot about leadership and motivation in that environment.”

Beyond the office, Pazos carries his passion for computers to his home life, where he runs his own servers; the man literally lives and breathes computers, everyday. And, as a strong advocate for the paperless movement, he swears he doesn’t keep one physical paper file, at home or in the office.

“Going paperless is an essential step to every business, and the accounting world has especially benefited from it,” he says. His firm is working toward automating the by using its paperless position as an enabler to further streamlining operations. This is made possible by building and using software to eliminate and reduce as many manual processes as possible.

Today, 10 percent of MBAF’s staff is located in India. As a leader in MBAF’s global initiatives, Pazos has led two different teams in Israel and India. Paperless processes, combined with modern technology, allows him to effectively communicate with the remote office … but that isn’t the only way paperless benefits him and his firm.

The paperless trend itself is what in large part led to his claim-to-fame, so to speak. He is co-developer of PaperSave®, a proprietary document imaging and storage system. The solutions offered through PaperSave combine modern document management systems with the familiar comfortable surrounding of an accounting or information system in a simple, streamlined fashion.

Pazos says one out of 10 documents are either lost of misfiled. PaperSave offers seven different ways to securely get a document into the system, enabling instantaneous on-screen access without re-engineering current processes.

“PaperSave eliminates the problem of identity theft and privacy concerns by securely storing sensitive documents within the confines of our customer’s accounting and information systems.”

Efficiency is key when it comes to accounting practices, and technology is a large player in streamlining solutions at an even greater capacity in the years to come.

“Our increased use of technology teaches us the very best in business process automation through our own internal consumption. As we understand how to make ourselves more efficient each day, we are in a great position to bridge that gap for our clients.”

With so much success in his early years in the profession, one might wonder where Pazos plans to be as the accounting world evolves. Lucky for MBAF, he sees the firm growing, and envisions himself growing right along with it.

“Our firm experienced great growth through leadership, pioneering and innovation. I see myself helping lead us to great accomplishments within our industry and the business world in general.”
