9,000 Employees at 84 Lumber 'Live' on UltiPro's Self-Service
WESTON, Fla., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI - News), a leading provider human resources, payroll, and workforce management solutions, announced today that 84 Lumber, the nation's largest privately held supplier of building materials in the United States, is experiencing business benefits and efficiencies as a result of UltiPro Workforce Management's self-service for employees, reporting library, and enterprise integration tools. With approximately 9,000 employees in 500 locations, 84 Lumber started using UltiPro in August 2005 and has since launched employee self-service to its associates. They now can log onto UltiPro from anyplace with an Internet connection to view and update information. The building material supplier continues to add more human resource materials, such as internal newsletters and forms, to the UltiPro portal to maximize the value it brings to employees.
"Feedback about UltiPro's self-service has been very positive," said Brian Kelly, HR manager for 84 Lumber. "UltiPro is so easy to use that we were able to introduce benefits and payroll information to our employees with minimal investment in training. The transition has been extremely smooth, and we look forward to expanding the portal to incorporate more strategic HR and company processes."
In addition to helping 84 Lumber's employees at large to better manage their personal information, UltiPro is providing real-time workforce analytics, including both day-to-day and business intelligence reporting, to the human resources and payroll team at the Pennsylvania-based company. The department is monitoring trends on a regular basis and has been able to evaluate key areas, such as compensation, to help make more informed business decisions that affect the bottom line.
"In a particular part of the country, open positions were filling very slowly, so we analyzed different factors that could be influencing recruitment, like salary and benefits, by comparing the data we pulled from UltiPro with compensation averages in that geographic region," said Kelly. "UltiPro is giving us volumes of metrics that help us evaluate our current status and make better projections."
84 Lumber's HR team has been able to spend more time on strategic projects like talent acquisition because UltiPro has expedited many processes that were previously manual and time intensive. One project that used to be very cumbersome and inefficient before UltiPro was providing a third-party benefit administrator with the frequent updates necessary for 84 Lumber's 9,000- employee workforce. 84 Lumber is now creating a monthly file export of benefit changes that transfers the data without manual entry or risk of error -- a task that had been very lengthy and resource intensive with the building supplier's previous solution. Now the HR team completes the process rapidly without spreadsheets, and it also improves data accuracy because nothing needs to be re-keyed, decreasing the likelihood of errors.
"We are pleased to see retail operations like 84 Lumber increase the business efficiencies and strategic benefits they're seeking," said Greg Swick, senior vice president of sales for Ultimate Software. "We look forward to working with them as they extend the use of UltiPro and Web technology for even more value."
