Lambton County Library Services Selects Geac's Vubis Smart as its New Information Management System

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA, June 27 /CNW/ - Geac(R) (TSX:GAC, NASDAQ:GEAC) announced today that the County of Lambton, an innovative county located in southwestern Ontario, Canada (www.lambtononline.ca), has purchased Geac's Vubis Smart library automation system. Adoption of Vubis Smart by Lambton County Library Services (www.lambtonlibrary.org) continues a pattern of steady growth in North America for Vubis Smart, Geac's innovative, Web-based library management system.

"We strongly value our relationship with Lambton County Library Services and are pleased that Vubis Smart has been selected to accommodate the Library's current and future needs," said Ellen Isaacson, North American General Manager, Geac Library Solutions. "With Vubis Smart, the Library furthers its objective to provide an increasing array of value-added services to the public at large. By choosing Vubis Smart, Lambton County Library Services can easily showcase its traditional, museum and gallery collections while offering an extraordinary experience that will continuously draw users to the Library."

Lambton County's public libraries serve approximately 127,000 citizens across a 1,200-square-mile area in southwestern Ontario through 27 branches, one bookmobile, the Lambton Room in Library Headquarters and deposit collections in the long-term care facilities. Services offered in the branches include books, talking books, magazines, audio-visual materials, story hours, guest speakers, reference services, Internet access, theatre rental and a collection of archival materials for Lambton County.

"Geac's Vubis Smart offers exceptional flexibility in allowing the County of Lambton to bring library services and the collections in our art gallery and two museums together under one system," said Cindy Thayer, General Manager, Community Services, County of Lambton. "This will allow the County of Lambton an opportunity to provide the tailored and enhanced services that our residents have come to expect from us."

Vubis Smart is a comprehensive information management system that enables libraries, archives and museums to organize and present data from any source and in any format. The system incorporates convenient workflows and easy-to-use administrative tools. Staff can define multiple formats, databases, indexes, search methods and more. Distinctive rules and parameters may be defined to meet the requirements of individual branches and locations. Users can simultaneously search multiple databases, link to subscription resources and customize the Web OPAC for appearance, language and search results. Unique Web OPAC features include 'Fuzzy Logic', 'Associative Searching', Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) and customized news feeds (RSS).
