Made2Manage Systems Sees Dramatic Shift to Virtual Classrooms for Subscription-Based Education

lect Virtual Training Option

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 2003-- Made2Manage Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:MTMS - News), a leading provider of enterprise software for small and midsize manufacturers and distributors with revenues less than $250 million, today announced a dramatic shift away from traditional classroom training toward live, online instruction within M2M(TM) University, the company's subscription-based education program.

"In the wake of 9/11 and the lagging economy, the benefits of online education are making traditional classrooms nearly obsolete," said Dave Blakeslee, director of education at Made2Manage Systems. "Today's 'live,' online classes enable our customers to attend virtual courses from the convenience of their facility, which eliminates travel expenses and significantly reduces schedule disruption and downtime."

"The advantages are too compelling to ignore," said Ken Olsen, director of operations at Ontario-based MetroPhotonics, a leading developer of monolithic photonic integrated circuits for access, metro and long haul networks. "I don't have to pay for people to travel to remote locations or for an instructor to fly here for on-site training, which also would require setting up a special training facility. The (M2M University's) online classroom is a very good option for us."

Industry analysts recognize the business benefits of online training for customers and employees. According to an article by Colleen Niven published in The AMR Research Alert (18 July 2002), "Web-based training or e-learning can save travel costs, shorten the time to productivity and provide knowledge on the fly, but it needs to be integrated with the business applications and be easily accessible or else people just won't bother to use it."

George Allworth, quality assurance manager at Pacific Air Switch Corporation (Grove, Ore.) agrees. "These online courses are more business-friendly than traditional classroom training. Spending four hours a day or less on training gives us time to continue doing our jobs. And, even more important, if an emergency comes up during the middle of the class, we are in the building and able to deal with it immediately."

While some still prefer to attend traditional classes at Made2Manage Systems' corporate headquarters in Indianapolis, Blakeslee indicated that the M2M University program has experienced a 20 percent increase in online instruction. To maximize the advantages of online training, M2M University has added "private" virtual education classes that focus on specific companies' requirements, as well as "Fast-Track" virtual training, which uses a prescriptive, job-specific approach to education. In addition, subscribers who are unable to attend online courses during normal business hours may take one of more than 25 play-on-demand recorded courses.
