More Than 600 Clients Now Using Deltek GCS Premier

SOURCE: Deltek Systems, Inc.

Product Is Now The Leading Cost Accounting Software For Small & Mid-Sized Government Contractors

HERNDON, VA--(INTERNET WIRE)--Apr 17, 2002 -- Deltek Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:DLTK - news), the leading provider of business software and solutions to project businesses, today announced that more than 600 clients are now using Deltek GCS Premier just three years after its initial release. The product is now the leading government compliant cost accounting and project and financial management solution designed specifically for small and mid-sized government contractors. By delivering a unified system that provides real-time access to and Web-based reporting on key project and company-wide financial information, Deltek GCS Premier allows project managers to stay on top of their projects and empowers senior management to focus on overall profitability.

Susan O'Dea, Deltek's Executive Vice President and General Manager for the Deltek GCS Division, points out that according to the Small Business Administration Pro-NET sourcing service database, there are tens of thousands of small and minority-owned companies that are doing business with the federal government. "With the new emphasis on improving homeland security and expanding anti-terrorism operations around the world, many of these firms will experience significantly greater demand for their services and rapid growth over the next several years."

"As increasing demand puts pressure on them to deliver," O'Dea continues, "The complexity of their contract management, regulatory compliance and unique project cost accounting operations will increase dramatically. Small and mid-sized government contractors are realizing that it's critical to automate their essential business functions while they still enjoy the benefits of small business or 8(a) status. This way they will have the systems in place that can support their continued growth and profitability, while ensuring government financial compliance for the long term."

With about 70 employees and five offices in the U.S., RCS Corporation is a mid-sized 8(a) firm that provides environmental consulting and operational services support and staff augmentation services to both government and commercial clients. The company has come a long way since its first contract award in 1995. RCS grew rapidly, going from two employees and $22,000 in total revenues to 70 employees and $5 million in revenues just two years later. Shortly thereafter Entrepreneur Magazine recognized the company's achievement by ranking RCS as the number one fastest growing new small business in the nation.

The company became a Deltek GCS Premier and Deltek Time Collection client in June of 2001. Tim Sides, Controller for RCS, says that the company realized early on that its rapid growth could only continue if it streamlined internal operations and improved its ability to track financials by federal government regulations. "Deltek GCS Premier and Deltek Time Collection are long-term solutions that are helping us prepare for the future," Sides emphasizes. "We have bigger projects now and we want to continue to grow. So much hard work and sacrifice went into getting the company this far, and we don't want to lose any ground."

RCS Corporation's CEO, Carlos F. Garcia, adds that "Our goal is to constantly upgrade the structure of the company and finances are a big part of that. The logical next step was implementing Deltek, and we are really happy with what the Deltek solutions have done for us. In fact, we just received our first cost plus contract award, which means that we're going to get audited very soon. And with Deltek's products and expertise in our corner, we're well prepared to be successful well beyond the time when our 8(a) status expires."

Applied Marine Technology Inc. (AMTI), a Deltek GCS Premier client since August 2000, is a small business that provides technical and security management services to the federal government. Operating under a demanding growth curve, AMTI has grown from $600,000 in total revenues of five years ago to about $9.7 million in 2001.

Paul W. Albers, AMTI's Executive Vice President, explains "we first heard the Deltek name when we were preparing for our first audit by the Defense Contracting Auditing Agency (DCAA). When the auditors asked if we were a Deltek client," Albers recalls, "they were visibly disappointed when we said no. So we were really impressed by the fact that DCAA auditors were very knowledgeable about Deltek and trusted the Deltek products."

Albers adds that, "after talking with several Deltek GCS Premier clients whose businesses were very similar to ours, we felt confident that we had selected the right solution and a vendor with a strong reputation for responsive client service and support. We went live in January 2001, and I can say confidently that the software solution has played and will continue to play a critical role in getting us to grow to the next level as we continue to win new business. It's helping us keep our G&A rates 2% to 3% lower than they otherwise might have been, and we project that revenues could reach $16 million in 2002."

"The bottom line," Albers concludes, "is that it would have been very difficult for us to operate this successfully in our business environment without a system in place as sophisticated and easy-to-use as Deltek GCS Premier."
