Siam Toyota Manufacturing Implements PowerCerv ERP Plus

PowerCerv Solutions Perform in Siam Toyota's Flow Manufacturing Environment

TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2001--PowerCerv Corporation (OTCBB:PCRV - news) today announced that Siam Toyota Manufacturing (STM) recently selected and now is implementing the PowerCerv ERP Plus(TM) suite at its Thailand headquarters. In order to streamline automotive parts planning and production, STM is capitalizing on the functionality and flexibility of ERP Plus within its traditionally flow manufacturing environment. STM is a supplier of engines for the Toyota Motor Corporation local assembly operations, Toyota Motor Thailand.

Superimposing the Toyota Production System of flow manufacturing on existing production and inventory control systems in ERP Plus required several customizations in order to satisfy STM's needs. However, the flexibility of ERP Plus enabled the software system to transition from an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution to a flow solution as required by STM.

In securing business with STM, PowerCerv relied on direct assistance from its Thailand distributor, M-Focus Co., Ltd. ``The ERP and manufacturing companies that first mastered the Toyota Production System were almost all headquartered in Japan. Still, not many Western firms understand the Toyota Production System,'' said Pricha Pantumsinchai, managing director of M-Focus.

ERP Plus is a suite of fully integrated e-business, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and ERP applications that extends enterprise operations across the virtual supply chain - allowing users to better know, understand and respond to the needs of their customers, suppliers and partners around the world.

Scott Galloway, senior vice president of products and marketing with PowerCerv, said: ``Toyota has always been the thought leader in flow/lean manufacturing principles, essentially defining the concept with the Toyota Production System. It is a wonderful testament to the flexibility of our product that Siam Toyota has chosen PowerCerv ERP Plus as the foundation of its production planning and control activities.''

The STM production system mirrors the Toyota Production System. The basic premise of the system is to maintain a continuous flow of products inside factories in order to adapt to fluctuating changes in demand. As a result, excessive inventories, cycle times and parts shortages are naturally reduced, thereby allowing manufacturers to increase productivity, reduce costs and increase customer service levels.

Initially, one of STM's main concerns was the ability of ERP Plus to meet STM's strict production planning and control requirements. After reviewing the capabilities of the Manufacturing Plus module, STM was satisfied with the solution's built-in inventory management concepts.

Pantumsinchai said: ``Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan pioneered the concept of the Toyota Production System many years ago. Today, not only manufacturers, but also ERP solution providers around the world are trying to embrace this innovative system - but they often find the going quite rough. This project with STM is an effort to implement the necessary transition from a traditional ERP system to the revolutionary Toyota Production System.

``By working directly with PowerCerv, we believe we are in the process of developing a very important production system that could propel PowerCerv ERP Plus to new heights in Thailand for many years to come,'' Pantumsinchai said.
