Sanford Health & MeritCare Select Multiple Lawson Enterprise Software Suites

Newly-Merged Healthcare Organization for the Dakotas Seeks to Streamline Business Processes and Improve Efficiency Through Lawson

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN - News) today announced it has signed a contract to provide multiple enterprise software suites to Sanford Health & MeritCare. The healthcare organization, which is based in North and South Dakota, selected the Lawson Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management suites. It also opted for Lawson Business Intelligence, Mobile Supply Chain Management, and user productivity solutions Lawson Smart Office and Enterprise Search. Lawson made the announcement during the annual Lawson Conference and User Exchange, which opened yesterday in San Antonio. The contract was signed during Lawson’s third quarter of fiscal 2010, which ended Feb. 28, 2010.

Sanford Health & MeritCare merged in November 2009. It is now the largest not-for-profit rural healthcare provider in the United States. It serves patients in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Oklahoma, and employs more than 18,000 people. As a combined entity, Sanford Health & MeritCare needed to replace its legacy systems with a single enterprise software system to manage business activities, including financials and supply chain. The Lawson system will now be used as the core enterprise system for the merged organization.

Using the Lawson system, Sanford Health & MeritCare seeks to improve efficiency throughout the organization’s supply chain and finance activities. Lawson Mobile Supply Chain Management and Lawson Business Intelligence will help the organization gain more accurate and timely views into key operational data.

“Lawson’s healthcare expertise and industry-specific applications have a proven track record helping healthcare organizations improve efficiency and reduce costs through better management of financials and supplies,” said Dennis Hofer, chief application officer for Sanford Health & MeritCare. “We needed a system that could better support our growth initiatives and provide the insight we need to make better, more informed business decisions. Lawson Smart Office and Enterprise Search will help us through a more powerful user interface and search functions that will help our employees gain greater value from our enterprise systems.”

Lawson Smart Office and Lawson Enterprise Search, which were introduced in April 2009, are the foundation of the Lawson user productivity environment. Lawson Smart Office provides a smarter, intuitive desktop environment, which helps bring together enterprise applications, business intelligence, desktop tools and group collaboration features. It helps simplify the enterprise software user’s overall experience.

Lawson Enterprise Search is much like an Internet search engine, but focused on relevant Lawson and non-Lawson data – even data found in email systems. This helps deliver the right data, in context to the work at hand, quickly and more efficiently.

“Healthcare organizations are discovering that crisp and accurate management of data and information is essential as they look to control costs and improve efficiency,” said Jim Catalino, general manager, Healthcare, Lawson. “We understand this industry. We focus on it, and we deliver solutions designed around the specific challenges confronting hospitals and healthcare organizations today. And by focusing on the needs of the software user, we deliver systems that make it easier for people to find and work with the data they need to make better, more sound business decisions.”
