The catch-all field of manufacturing is huge and encompasses ERP, supply chain solutions, and many areas in accounting, time & billing. It would be impossible to include all vendors in one article, so the listing below includes a cross-section of vendors that claim to serve the manufacturing sector. The four companies listed in detail were randomly selected from the entire list.
apps4biz
apps4biz provides industry-specific business applications designed exclusively for smaller manufacturing companies with less than $50M in revenue. Based in Wellesley Hills, Mass., apps4biz offers manufacturing; order processing, inventory management, supply chain management and e-commerce solutions. The apps4biz product suite includes General apps4biz™ and Manufacturing apps4biz™, two integrated modules that deliver sales order processing, invoicing, inventory management, production planning, and resource planning.
With the built-in integration capability, users move from task to task using the same interface. The company reports that every aspect of its solution is easy to use, tailor and maintain because all of its products employ a “revolutionary 4-screen user-interface: People, Items, Actions and Results™.”
BS/1 Software - Davis Business Systems
Davis Business Systems is a software development firm that started in 1982 to provide accounting software solutions that were original and reliable. More than 70 countries use the BS/1 package software, and for Delphi and C++Builder programmers, the source code is free. BS/1 Accounting multi-currency accounting software includes modules for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Inventory and Sales Analysis software, and can be used with Paymateā Payroll. The system also is upgradeable to BS/1 Professional for Time Billing or BS/1 Enterprise for Sales Orders and Purchase Orders.
The company’s manufacturing software tracks manufacturing orders, MRP ERP material and resource (labor and equipment) requirement planning, WIP (work in process), production costs, prints bills of materials, and passes data to the inventory software. Its capabilities include an unlimited number of materials and resources (labor and equipment) per product; optional automatic depletion of component material inventory; and entry of actual usage with variance tracking; and manufacturing order status report, material and resource planning reports.

Established in 1981 to provide enterprise business solutions for the midmarket, Microsoft Business Solutions offers e-business applications for financials, distribution, project accounting, electronic commerce, human resource management, manufacturing, sales and marketing management, and customer service and support.
With Navision, a number of engagements involving manufacturing can be handled and improved. Independent partner organizations sell the company’s products, and always implement the need for lasting customer relationships. Navision provides tools to manage manufacturing processes, including production orders, bills of material, supply planning and capacity requirements planning.
